Hi
Can anyone advise me of a specialist cleaning company that deals with asbestos contaminated clothing contaminated by (Atrex, Chrysotaile) and if there is a requirement that they would have to be cleaned by a specialist cleaning company if contaminated. I have read HSG247 and guidance ( ao and EM1)

Contaminated clothing should be double-bagged in UN approved labelled packaging and disposed of as asbestos waste. [There are some companies that clean re-usable nylon coveralls for the licensed removal workers - but these coveralls are used again in such stripping environments - they are not worn in everyday life]

You will find the decontamination procedures for non-licensed works with asbestos in EM6 and EM9 on the HSE website (also the Asbestos Task Essentials book).

Hope this answers your question

Surely the most important question is:
How did the contamination occur?

Accidental? Management failure? Lack of controls? Not following correct procedures?

What has been done to investigate the contamination?

What is being done to prevent a recurrence of the event?
