Good morning all,

Quick question, am I correct to say that a 2 way "block socket splitter" or 2 way "multi mains socket" is banned from the workplace due to them being a fire hazard?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Brendan.

No. Why are they a fire hazard? They should meet BS1363 and will have a 13A fuse in the plug. If there was reason to ban them from the workplace for being a fire hazard they should not be on sale in the first place.

There may of course be other safety reasons why you would want to discourage trailing cables. When I was responsible for a factory I took the attitude that if the socket block was needed, then proper fixed sockets should be installed.

Depends on your workplace and their policies

Some NHS Trusts have banned them due to non fused units being used (adapters bought in from home!) and the risk of them being pulled away from the wall by the weight of numerous flexes hanging from them and creating a poor electrical connection.
