Under the CDM 2007 regs it is the principle contractor whom is required to develop the construction phase plan to enable works to proceed on site With CDM changing next year how will this effect the plan ? anybody got any thoughts ?

From my understanding the Plan is not likely to change much if at all. It will still be the responsibility of the PC to develop the plan and maintain it. CDMC is to be replaced by a PD (Principle Designer) and they will control the Pre Construction Phase of the project.

It should have absolutely no effect at all on the PRINCIPAL Contractor. The CPP is his document and the quality of it will be affected by the quality of the pre construction information. But I do hope we now end the farce of CPPs being rejected because they are not structured as many CDMCs used to insist. Bob

Might it be the Lead Designer who rejects the CPP in future

No it will be a Client duty to ensure that the Principal Contractor has prepared a Construction Phase Plan!

Having appointed the PC and awarded the contract can the client now say the PC is not competent to produce the CPP? At least we will not having the CDMC creating hoops before he advises the client.

In the draft new CDM Regs, the word ‘competent’ only comes up with inspecting excavations and coffee dams.

Stedman Well aware of this and regard it as the very worst part of the changes. I was talking in a much broader context not specifically the requirements of the regulations. B0B

There must be an awful lot of coffee in the new Regs then ?
