Im currently unemployed after talking voluntary redundancy.I have the nebosh certificate(general) and the iosh(managing safely).I am thinking of doing the environmental certificate too whilst trying my hardest to gain some more experience in the field of health and safety.Would this help?,cheers...David

Hi David Im sure it would go some way to help gain employment if you already have some Env experience. I supose it depends on your industry to how much help it will bring. If you can stretch your budget to a diploma level qualification, Im sure this would help more. However its the typical catch 22 - experience is key. I suppose any further certificates, qualifications or experience you can get your hands on will improve your prospects. - Go for it! Good luck SS

FYI a couple of years ago when I was unemployed I suggested to the job centre that it may be a good idea to volunteer my services for local companies for free for a day or two to see if I could tempt them into employing me. The job centre said NO, in no uncertain terms ! You can volunteer for things like charities, but take care what you suggest. Yes Env or Fire Quals would be useful. Chris

I was very lucky to get a job with just a NEBOSH general and very little experience, so im proof these jobs do pop up now and then. Ofcourse it wasnt the best pay, but its the experience that I wanted - Now, years and qualifications later im about to step into a SHE role with a global manufacturer. Keep looking im sure something will come up soon. Attend the IOSH branch meetings and get networking.
