We are about to start a small project where there is a requirement to build a scaffold on the roof and out over the edge of the roof to form a working platform 18 storeys up to dismantle part of the high level cladding for replacement and or repair. There is a design for the canter lever scaffold using alloy beams and braces.

What should I be looking for in the competency record/certificate of the individual scaffolders, I have looked at CSCS and CISRS but I don’t see anything specific to such high level work.

Would the card need to be a gold 'advanced' card?

The operative could hold a qualified scaffolder or an advanced scaffolder card for the type of structure you detail. However, more importantly, you need to ensure your have employed a responsible scaffolding contractor who will take just care and attention with the skills and know how to deliver this project without any issues. Following a robust sub contractor vetting system I would request the MS as soon as possible to satisfy myself that all elements are covered focusing in the main in exclusion zones, fall arrest and rescue plans etc etc.

I would say that this needs to be a design scaffold and in the past companies I have worked for have insisted that an independant scaffold inspector carries an inspection to make sure that it has been erected correctly and to the design.

Perhaps go with advanced scaffolder re CISRS?!
