best of luck and congratulations

just remember what your role is and work within it e.g. let managers manage and also note that its completely different outside the military (says I who was a Sapper) so try to accept that & if in doubt about a situation just ask the members as we are here to help & what is your IOSH status?

Try not to confuse QA with H&S. Totally different. Although the standards (ISO 9001 & OHSAS 18001) are written in a way so as to integrate them easily (think control of records, document control etc) they both have differing requirements.

cheifinspector has given great advice so please take head of it

In my experience with these combined roles the QA side tends to hold the kudos with management so the effort is put into that area as it looks good on paper where there should be balance at least noting that if U fail at QA nothing can really happen but if U fail at H&S a person can die!

I recently audited part of a very large company who has spent a fortune on QA and holds all the various standards and puts lots of kudos in the area with their QA people having a higher standing in the company than H&S people. However the company still has a criminal record with >£800K of fines to its name!

Thanks bob ill keep that in mind, but I wont loose focus on the health and safety side of the job. Its Only week 2 in to the new job, taking things slow as there was no handover, only patchy notes from my predecessor, still on the catching up phase! got past notes from last audit to go on ! Thanks for the advice!
