PhD Title: An investigation of the association between worker engagement practices and safety behaviours. This post is seeking to get the views of the health and safety professional community to support my PhD research, which I am completing part time at Cardiff Metropolitan University. The ethics approval number of this research is 0011-SREC-2014(02). I want to establish whether there are differences in how we approach worker involvement and worker engagement in health and safety. I would appreciate you taking just a few minutes to answer the following questions (or just some of them): 1. What do you understand by the phrase ‘worker involvement in health and safety’? 2. What do you understand by the phrase ‘worker engagement in health and safety’? 3. How can an organisation best involve workers in health and safety? 4. How can an organisation best engage workers in health and safety? 5. What behaviours might we see or hear in an involved worker? 6. What behaviours might we see or hear in an engaged worker? I will look for themes in the responses and may use quotes anonymously in the research. If you do not wish me to use a quote I would kindly ask that you either do not participate in this discussion or contact me privately. Please respond by 30/11/14. I look forward to reading your views and opinions. I will give my own perspective at the end of the discussion. Many thanks Nick Bell Nick Bell Risk Consultancy www.nickbellrisk.com

I'll try and get some responses over to you Nick via PM later on. Good luck in answering your research question - can't go far wrong looking into safety behaviour! Just out of interest from an academics perspective, what thematic approach will you be using to analyse responses? (I just completed my MSc dissertation using an element of thematics - Boyatzis is one to look out for in terms of good justification of methodology and references) All the best Jamie
