I am looking for an example of an assessment to identify the type of RPE to be provided to employees. I know it needs to include such things as the work activities, level of protection required, face fit testing, training, maintenance etc, but am looking for some worked examples to see whether I am on the right lines. All suggestions welcome. Many thanks.

Decimomal I'm looking at the RPE selection/assessment work-form tool that I have used for years, and I recall now that this was developed from studying the worked examples in the OLDER edition of hsg53 (2005). The tool goes through the substances' hazard groups, amount used, volatility and dustiness, from which you can work out the RPE protection factor. I can't see the same assessment tool in the 2013 edition. If you want/need a copy of the older hsg53 PM me. But I'm now wondering if my RPE selection tool is valid :o/ John

There is an electronic RPE Selector Tool that has been jointly developed by the Health and Safety Executive, NHS Health Scotland and Healthy Working Lives (HWL) based on HSE’s RPE guidance HSG53. http://www.healthyworkinglives.com/rpe-selector/
