Hi all
We are looking to provide in house training courses for plant to our employees, and more importantly, our subcontractors.
My question lies with the Professional Indemnity insurance. Is this the appropriate type of insurance to cover ourselves or is it not necessary. My mind is kind of 'on the fence' so to speak as to whether or not it is needed or even appropriate.
I would be grateful of any input.
Many thanks

I used to work as Training Coordinator in previous employment and my employers were set up as an NVQ assessment centre. We only provided this service to our own employees but this was not an insurance requirement of our awarding body and we never had it.

Ashley, it appears that your employer is providing a service to your sub-contractors. There is a possibility that the training could be poor, incorrect or incomplete. There is the further possibility that the failure could be a contributing factor to an incident where harm or loss occurs.
Your risk manager should be able to make some judgement on whether those possibilities plus the anticipated financial exposure combine to create an unacceptable risk for your organisation.
If you cannot make that judgement internally then a reputable risk management-oriented insurance broker may assist and advise.
Of course there would be an insurance premium to find plus professional fees if the decision is that PI Insurance is needed.
