Just wondering what others thoughts are on the use of these single use straps and bags. The reason is that a crane driver has stated that his company policy is not use for the main lift but ok to use to lift into a skip or similar to then undertake the main lift.

Paul if I understand what you are saying I would be in agreement with the crane driver provided you have the correct safety measures in place.
I would not repeatedly use for lifting purposes a single use bag or strap say 30 mts in the air more than once.
If needs arose I would allow one to be used for lifting more than once the 1 to 2 mtrs into a certificated container to be lifted to a much greater height.
Good luck Alex

Regards Paul I would agree with the Crane operator. I had this years ago, and had a long standing debate with a re-bar company over it. What do you class as single lift? The initial lift to get them onto the lorry bed, or the lift to get them off? In my view its the former. Our site rule was not to use their straps, but instead use our own straps, bag up theirs and return them. With the bags it was as the crane driver said, into a skip and then lifted.
