Advice please. Which qualification next for career change?

Hi all. I'm a serving police officer with 14 years under my belt looking to obtain a health and safety role within the oil and gas industry. I have the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Health and Safety and need to decide what my next step is. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm becoming aware that in most circumstances experience in the industry is greatly valued.
So ideally, I'm looking for shadowing work whilst working towards my next qualification. What are your thoughts?
NEBOSH Certificate in oil and gas ? NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety ? NEBOSH Diploma/Certificate Environmental ?
Anything else I should consider?
thanks

Nebosh Oil and Gas and Nebosh Fire Certificate will be ideal for you in my view..
Nebosh Diploma is an advanced step...but worth to have it at the end...

I agree with Prad,
I held off my diploma until I was working in health and safety, I can't speak for oil and gas but fire is very useful and an interesting course. It's also quite transferrable as fire is a hazard in most workplaces
Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for the advice. On another point can anyone tell me if I should have access to my network group within the forum (Offshore group + North East Scotland)? Is there a separate forum area for these?
Thanks again.

Pr1mate Yes. I had issues with this. Each branch has their own forum which I did not get access to until I emailed the membership team. Drop them an email and they will sort it out for you. membership@iosh.co.uk

Difficult to know wher to start with this to be honest. I had an army and security bacground before moving into the safety world in which I have worked for neearly 18 years now. In the last few years I have been trying to move into the same sort of position but it is a tough arena to enter.
In all honesty you would probably be better off getting yourself a job offshore in any role, if your young and fit enough doing something like a roustabout role just to get yourself into the right work arena.
If you have never worked in oil and gas before assuming that getting a safety qualification (no matter which one you go for) will lead automatically to a job offshore is likely to lead to a considerable amount of disappointment for you.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad or realistic news but just want you to know the realities out there.
good luck

Out of those 3 the best one to go for would be the NEBOSH Environmental Cert. In the offshore world there is a huge focus on prevention of spills to the sea and this falls right into the hands of the safty person. The Oil & Gas cert is a nice to have rather than essential and you can learn most of it if you manage to get a position in the industry anyway.
Totally agree with Robert though that you shouldn't get your hopes up about landing a position offshore. I would try to gain experience onshore first and learn the industry before you make the jump to an offshore position. Your experience in the police should mean that you have been involved in incident investigations and this is one area where potential employers do like you to have knowledge up.
Keep trying though as there are positons out there.
