Creating a short H&S Course & having it approved by IOSH?

Has anyone done this recently and if so how did you find the process?
I've been thinking about creating a one day/half day induction type course that all new starts would complete within the business.
Any advice/feedback would be very much appreciated

Hi Martin,
I am currently getting a one day MS refresher course accredited with IOSH. Just remember that it can take quite a bit of time for IOSH to do this.
If you contact IOSH they will email you lots of information on how to do this and costs etc..
This information used to be available on the website.

Speaking as someone who has worked as a trainer for 10 years, delivering IOSH and non IOSH courses - why bother?
Unless you want to use their course materials - you will presumably be putting togther you own course materials. If you are competent to do this, then why would you need IOSH, except for the Kudos?

Ive got to agree with pikeman, why bother?
They will just take your 3k to add the logo to materials. I tried ages ago.

My thoughts are that creating an IOSH accrediated course will help demonstrate to insurers, clients, contractors and employees that we are serious about H&S

Slightly off topic.
After a year of conducting Fire Warden Training within our organisation, internally to over 500 people. I finally got the course accredited with the IFSM (others are available) and yes it was at a cost.
Notwithstanding having the 'badge' on our website and certificates, our insures are really happy that it's an official course and we now do not get Fire Safety Officers questioning us about the course content and my qualifications to deliver the training, having the IFSM logo on the certificates keeps them at bay. For me this is just another element of the safety cause as I see fit, and we are now in the position to afford/have this. 3 Years ago this was the last thing on my list of stuff to do, though.
Note: I work in the care industry with care homes etc. So fire safety is important to us.

We did this earlier this year for a client, who specifically wanted the IOSH branding for their two courses. Took a lot longer than we expected (18 weeks in total) and IOSH were quite pedantic regarding the materials (presentation, handout, assessment papers, tutors qualifications etc) Personally I would not relish the prospect of having to do this again!

Thanks Baker, I kinda thought this would be the case with trying to create a course

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately the best course in the world wouldn't be looked upon as favourably by clients, contractors, insurers etc as a sub par course endorsed by the likes of IOSH, RoPSA etc. Standard stuff.

This is so true and can be very frustrating to produce exactly what IOSH are looking for. I have to say though they have good reason to ensure that they are rubber stamping a quality product.
My advice - read the guidance they give you, and make sure the spelling and grammar is good, be prepared to have to make changes and to wait ages for them to finally accredit the training.

Why? Is this because it required you to raise your own standards and that was a challenge or was it because IOSH were not clear in their requirements at the outset or were you frustrated for some other reason?
Interested to know a bit more detail on why you found it so frustrating because that may help others to avoid the same.
Thanks and regards
