Just received this month’s SHP magazine (jan 2015) to find that it is ridiculously thin, in fact the thinnest yet. The amount of content has seen a noticeable decline over the last six years. Not counting the job advert pages the number of actual pages has reduced as follows: Jan 2009 70 pages. Jan 2011 56 pages. Jan 2015 52 pages. This is over 25% decrease in content and articles over the last six years. Is anyone else concerned about this? After all this literature is part of our membership benefits and the articles are vital to members' information gathering.

No, I have not noticed this reduction because since last May 2014 (my last membership renewal date) I have not received my online copy of SHP!! Membership are aware and have done nothing to rectify the situation consequently I will not (repeat not) be renewing membership this May.

Also you get £7 off your membership if you go paperless.

The lost weight is more than made up by the other junk included in the package. A great earner for the publisher but an unwanted addition to my paper recycling bin. The jobs pages are now so few that the argument about losing income if job vacancies are posted on here becomes very frail. Not wholly convinced that the quality has improved and much of the news and court reports are covered online anyway.

Lets play Devils Advocate here. How many members have submitted any proposals for articles recently? No ideas or articles submitted = thin publication. On a lighter note, one of my colleagues did submit an article a couple of years ago and it was a very good bit of work - which was surprising as I didn't think he could even type properly ;-) Jim

I have just opened mine whilst reading the post - there are more pages in the free (IPAF) supplement than the SHP itself.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Glad its not just me suffering from post Christmas blues............... I do feel that the quantity of the articles and information magazine has declined remarkably of the last few years, although they now seem to pad it out with constant full page adverts and handfuls of free flyers. This is part of our subscription and it's on the point of being not worth it. Any chance of someone from the magazine commenting? Regards Toffee wrapper

I'm the same as MrsSheila, I haven't received a copy of the online SHP since renewing my membership in July 2014 - IOSH are aware. I have checked with my IT department to see if emails are being blocked and they don't appear to be.

I also don't get the electronic version, have emailed them a few times - not even a return email. Have noticed - as others have - that the magazine IS full of adverts / flyers etc - not needed, straight in the bin!
