Hi, Just wondering how everyone else treats scissor lift tables with regards to LOLER? On site we have a lot of small scissor lift tables (350kg max loading capable of reaching 1 meter max), used for transporting kit around the workshop and only raised to slide kit on/off the benches. Historically they have been subject to a Thorough Examination under LOLER. However, I'm of the opinion that as their primary purpose is to transport rather than to lift, and arguably the max load and height isn't too great, that LOLER wouldn't apply. Unfortunately the only guidance I can find either relates to scissor lifts (MWEP type) or is from companies that want to test them for us! Any help and experiences appreciated. Thanks, Will

Because the scissor lift raises the load up to the bench height then arguably its primary purpose is lifting. Whereas a pallet truck raises the load just enough so you can transport the load. Our lift tables are examined under LOLER by our engineering inspection contractor. However they also do the pallet trucks for us - but specifically state in their report that these are NOT under LOLER. The guidance in the ACoP L113 specifically lists scissor lifts as "equipment covered by LOLER". Hope this helps Ian
