I had a sub-contractor recently remove one from one. If you could send me your details I can forward a copy. It was a full passenger lift removal on board a ship.

Hi Latchy,
I Do Not have a RAMS for lift removal but have undertaken the work in previous employment. The first thing I would advise is that if things go wrong they are catastrophic. As for removal of the running gear I am assuming you are talking about a traction lift as apposed to a hydraulic. other considerations would be top or bottom drive machinery/ motor. Generally a temporary hoist system is rigged up to the existing lift car. The lift car is de-roped or the ram isolated with fluid drained and electrical supply isolated. The car top is then used as a temporary work platform and the lift removed from the top down.
The RAMS should include:
propping the counter weight when de-roping or taking the weight of the lift car.
work at height and strict access arrangements for working in the shaft
secondary means of fall prevention for the lift car or work platform (existing over speed governor can be used is adequate)/ use of chains.
falls from height from the work platform and overloading work platform issues.
preventing falls from height as the work progresses i.e. replacing landing entrances with suitable barriers.
Hot works.
COSHH/grease & hydraulic fluid
Confined space if using cutting equipment in the lift shaft or even the lift motor room.
LOLER for temporary hoist system and daily inspection of lifting equipment.
Emergency arrangements for rescue
Lead (Counter weights) Asbestos (motor components).
That should get you going.
One thing that was over looked is a asbestos survey of the shaft. Asbestos specialists could not gain access within lift shafts, so it was never part of the survey. I have came across asbestos a few times in lift shafts the last time it was used to coat the underside of the slab to the lift motor room.

Would echo latchy comment about asbestos - lots of companies will record it as not checked because of the special measures needed to get in there!
