Hi all,

I'm currently a bit confused on who is the "best" authority (UKATA or ARCA) to go with on the following asbestos courses:

- ARCA Asbestos awareness / UKATA Cat A training
- ARCA Asbestos non-licenced removal / UKATA Cat B training
- ARCA Asbestos licenced removal / UKATA Cat C training

From what I can tell they are all pretty much the same courses content wise. However, unlike some other types of training (PASMA, IPAF, even CSCS) there doesn't seem to be one overall winner.

Can somebody in the removal industry possibly shed any light? Which body is "better"? Is there one which is more widely accepted / respected?

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Why don't you ask both ARCA and a local UKATA provider if you can sit in on one of their training sessions so you can compare like with like. Apart from training delivery you should consider the training aids and the environment of the training provider.

Our Company uses UKATA. Our training regime is excellent. Our needs are served well by UKATA. Can`t denigrate ARCA too much but, in my opinion, the clue is in the name. ARCA stands for Asbestos Removal Contractors Association, so it is contractor led. Whereas UKATA (United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association) is a bit more of an impartial organisation. These are only my views, mind...

We have used UKATA.

Never used ARCA as UKATA have always fulfilled our needs!

If it is just asbestos awareness then it does not have to be acredited to either organisation.

Most good safety consultants can deliver training or use an e-learning module both acceptable by the HSE.
