Does anyone have any experience with closing forces on fire doors and suitability with elderly/frail people. I read from the planning portal (which, I think explains it quite clearly), that for disabled people opening forces should be less than 30N from 0 to 30 degrees and then 22.5N from 31 to 60. Has anyone used one of the Pesola guages? The problem is with fire doors is that they have been tested with certain components - to consider other options e.g. compatible motorised openers could mean starting all over again - fire test and all. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks

Paul I don't have an answer to your question, but I think you may find it in BS EN 179:2008. If you cannot get visibility of the aforementioned standard PM me and I will check the relevant sections. Ray

Good morning Paul In our care homes all bedroom doors are fitted with 'swing free' closers. These allow doors to operate like normal internal doors but will close in the event of the fire alarm being activated. All fire doors in corridors are fitted with mag-locks.
