We have a project which requires scaffolding to be erected inside a large steel tank to allow internal inspection. The tank has been purged and top & bottom manholes removed but there is insufficient light to carry out the task safely. I am having enormous difficulty locating a supplier who will hire out extra low voltage festoon (linked) lighting (the tank walls will be wet and it is obviously a conductive environment). There are lots of low voltage portable lights for hire out there, but there does not seem to be a source of low voltage lighting that can be installed and fixed inside the tank? Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

I don't really think that battery operated lanterns will fit the bill. I am not having a barbeque, going camping or doing some maintenance on my car in the garage. This is a large scale scaffold erection inside a steel vessel (capacity 700m3) from base to the roof. Several scaffold levels will be required with fixed festoon lighting on each levels. Your lanterns will be as much use as a 2 AA torch in the bottom of a mine shaft.

John, thank you for the apology. It is easy to rattle off a reply and give an impression that wasn't really meant.

Actually some battery lanterns give very good light output and have the advantage of being portable. Please don't dismiss them as only for campers etc.
