Hi Everyone
Hopefully this is a quick question. We currently carry out health surveillance for HAV's using an occupational health practice however their quality systems have been upgraded.
Tier 1 questionnaires as per Part 5 of the Hav's ACOP from their opinion must be analysed by a OH professional with the required training (the GP we previously used to do it now can't as he doesn't have that specific piece of training depsite being a GP).
So if this is correct can someone please point in the direction of the where this is stated?
Thanks

"It is essential that health professionals involved in health surveillance for HAVS can demonstrate that they have the necessary expertise. Specialist training is required to carry out adequate clinical assessments and avoid misdiagnosing symptoms of HAVS."

without in any way being negative to GP's [great people] specialists in Occ health are needed for occie health areas and in many situations the area can be nurse lead as against doctor lead - U will save £ and get very very very good professional support from front line occie health nurses

Thank you very much for the advice so far.
Our health surevilance is carried out by occ health professionals at every stage including on appt to the job to establish any previous exposure or issues. We have over 600 employees with potential exposure. When we take on new employees we are looking to do the Teir 1 qustionnaire (yes no answers only) ourselves and any yes answers will be automatially referred to OH.
As it is a little unclear from L140 para 235 whether this can be an in house function what are your opinions on whether we can do this in house with no specific training other than identify a yes answer and send to OH for Tier 3 referral

As I noted above
328 As a minimum requirement, initial pre-exposure assessment can be carried out using a self-administered questionnaire that includes questions about the person’s medical history which is to be returned in confidence to the health professionals (see Appendix 2). Employees with no symptoms suggestive of HAVS, or relevant medical history, should be considered fit for work with exposure to vibration. The qualified person or doctor will see those with possible symptoms of HAVS for further assessment. The doctor will then decide whether the person is fit to work with vibration exposure.
