Hi everybody, I'm after a little help/guidance.

Our maintenance operators will occasionally be required to work on machines that have gas feeds to them.
L56 - Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 Approved Code of Practice and guidance Part B Regulation 3 states "Gas work should only be undertaken:
(a) by a person who has successfully completed an industry-recognised training course followed by assessment of competence."

The maintenance guys do not work on the main gas supply, only on a few machines with gas energy present. I don't want them to go on a full GasSafe course as this would be overkill, however I do need them to satisfy this requirement.

Has anybody else used anybody they can recommend for this??

Regards

Carl.

As U have already indicated nobody should be working with gas [mains or otherwise] unless they are competent* to do so; so I advise that you have a chat with the people at GasSafe to see if that have any course suitable noting that work is not domestic work and the jobs evaluation should give U all U need to know so as U can use that to give the details to GasSafe [*Is the word 'competent' still used nowadays?]

just updated myself with Gas Safe who confirm my thoughts in that to work in a none domestic situation a person must have undertaken the appropriate industrial training and only then can Gas Safe provide the appropriate card etc.

Hope that this helps

Is this not a case of simply having a robust isolation and lock off system in place? See HSG 253

As you say, are your guys really working on a gas system - from the information given, it seems not.
