I am sorry if this has been mentioned before, I tried to find the thread, the question is concerning the low loader drivers being trained to drive every piece of kit, plant they deliver, pick up, there is no training even in the CPCS on how to load and unload a piece of plant, my question is how does a small company afford to operate, to train our drivers on every piece of plant will cost a fortune and they may not deliver some plant they have been trained on every week, can anyone give me a practical solution to this problem, the concern is if an accident occurs, advise please

Is there a specific course that teaches loading and off loading of plant that would be a generic course, one size fits all so to speak?

No idea to be honest, I am currently looking into it for our HIAB operator, but havent got that far as of yet. I'm sure there is something out there, but may not be CPCS

Hi Latchy NPORS operate a certification scheme that includes plant loader securer -N120 (see below link for details of course content) http://www.npors.com/dow...lus%20Outcomes%202014%20(2).pdf or alternatively ITSSAR offer training in loading & lashing of loads.

The thing is, if we are loading a piece of plant and an accident happens and we are not trained in that piece of plant we will be responsible, but to just train all our drivers on all the possible plant that they could pick up would cost a lot of money would the term "as is reasonably practicable" come into use

Latchy it is the Devil and the deep blue sea.
There is no course to my knowledge that trains in the loading or unloading of plant purely because of the diverse range.
You could not and should not need to have your lorry drivers trained with CPCS card or NPORS in operating plant as the course does not cover loading and unloading.
Securing of plant again does not cover what is required.
It is difficult because then you move onto a course for banking plant on and off trailers.
Contact CITB and ask for a Peter Brown at least he will give you an update as to what may be happening as he is a product manager and a knowledgeable helpful bloke as well.
If you are members of the CPA contact them again they are always helpful.

Apologies if there is a specific loading and unloading plant category now on CPCS or NPORS as there did not use to be.
