In the event of a conveyor system breakdown has anyone had any experience of a solution to keep pcs moving other than have staff manually push the pcs down a dead roller bed? Any sort of portable slave motor that one can hook up to the dead section and provide motion until the callout engineers arrive?

The answer is to analyse the breakdowns and pro-actively maintain your conveyors to reduce the number of breakdowns. I think your solution will result in a number of H&S risks, particularly guarding.
