Afternoon All,
I've been looking around the interweb, looking for an answer to a question posed by one of my superiors regarding warehouse racking.
They wish to move some racking and maybe erect some more, but want to know whether our in house engineers could do this.
My gut feeling was that they could but we might have to get it inspected by a competent person for safety/insurance purposes, but I've confused myself with my internet searching. So I'm hoping the learned folks of the IOSH forum could help shed some light on the issue for me.

If you have in house Engineers then no problems as their abiding by their Professional Registration and membership of their Professional Institutes would prevent them from undertaking works for which they are not competent.
However, I would be very surprised if you in house Engineers would really be interested and competent to dismantle and erect warehouse racking as they would probably have been trained in the design and analysis of said racking rather than the donkey work of putting what is basically a "Meccano" kit together.

If it is multi level racking get it done by a competent racking company. That way your installation will be installed and inspected by competent persons all at the same time. That is how I have always advised it to be done.
