Hello guys,

There is a problem.. I'm thinking about starting IOSH working safely courses as that's a requirement for labourer CSCS card but.. As far as I know to get a Labourer CSCS card you have to provide them with your latest or current employer but unfortunately I don't have any experience in construction in UK (I have experience in my country) so there is no details I can supply, what should I do in this situation?

Also I'm thinking about completing the IOSH working safely course on online course provided by Virtual College, has anyone heard about it and could tell me if there's any difference between classes and online learning?

Another option you have is to find a user of a blue or black CSCS card (I think those are the right colours, but call CSCS to check). You can give that persons card as a reference but you will need their number off their card.

Other than that, I am not sure there is another route... you may need to get some casual work for a firm that doesn't require you to hold a CSCS card or find a firm who doesn't mind you applying under their name.

As for your second query, we have only sent our guys on the classroom course which they (apparently...) quite enjoyed!

It is a significant failing with the CSCS systems - they seem oblivious to the existence of the rest of the world. We have problems in their system with highly-qualified people who potentially have multiple non-UK degrees and higher qualifications, but no UK qualification, so CSCS regards them as unqualified.

So I don't have a useful answer, other than to say you're not alone, and the problem affects their whole system, regardless of what level of qualification or experience you're at.

The best suggestion is to be honest about the situation with a potential employer, and as ashleywillson suggests, see if they'll take you on without a card. Then you can do the application as possible after you've joined. This should be possible, because there's no law that says you must have a CSCS card - any hard rules about it are entirely of the employers creation, and therefore open to case-by-case variation.

Just looked it up, its black blue or gold of a higher level than the one you are applying for.

You may even be able to find someone on here willing to fill that role for you?
