Advice - MHE and Racking Audits and Inspections

I am looking for some guidance on MHE audits and racking inspections if any can help?
I am aware of the LOLER requirements for MHE however do working hours of the equipment come into it anywhere? I have been tasked with auditing our MHE operations on site - other than maintenance, inspection and training requirements, is there anything else that would be audited?
For racking inspections, is there any best practice guideance on the frequency of racking inspections. We currently have a SEMA full inspection annually and an internal inspection (carried out by a SEMA trained employee) once a month. The warehouse operations management occassionaly miss this timescale and I am looking for some information which confirms they must inspect monthly.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Hi Natalie, There is nothing set in stone regarding frequency of racking inspections -other than the recommended annual inspection that you already have in place. The way I advise on this is down to risk assessment. If you imagine racking in a warehouse without forklifts or automated so no risk of collisions then the need for weekly/monthly checks is probably not required. Alternatively if you are in a busy warehouse with lots of forklifts etc then I'd recommend a minimum of a monthly visual check. Companies tend to carry out daily forklift checks but totally ignore racking checks. If a driver collides with a racking upright can you be sure it will be reported? A scratch/bump on the daily forklift check might be noted and repaired but if a rackng upright is weakend and goes unchecked then the potential for a racking collapse is significantly increased - the cost of which can be severe. If your checks are being forgotten/overlooked I'd maybe suggest considering a racking tag and checklist system to provide a visual reminder - take a look at the system we developed at http://www.goodtogosafet...ct/category&path=122 which might prove a perfect solution for you. Feel free to drop me a line if you've any questions about it. Regards, Graham.
