Been asked a question and not sure of the answer as its not an area I am familiar with.

Some asbestos boarding is being removed from a site. Being done by a licensed contractor, they have provided RAMS etc.

The waste removal route trough the building goes past an occupied post room. The asbestos waste (comes out of an enclosure) is double bagged and sealed and is also in lidded wheelie bins. Once outside its going into a sealed asbestos skip.

The guys in the postroom are not happy that asbestos waste is being taken past where they work.

Is it normal practise to take controlled asbestos waste past a work area? Or does the waste route have to be through unoccupied areas?

It's not nuclear waste!!

Really it it's just scaremongering when someone hears the A word - nothing to worry about, it happens frequently when some jobsworth gets to hear about hazardous waste removal.

I agree with Ray

Its double bagged... Only real eyebrow raiser for me is where is it double bagged. If its the friable AIB the double bagging outside of the encapsulation could cause fibre release as boards are reduced in size to fit in bags . . .Maybe?

I agree with previous comments - you could arrange for some reassurance air testing to be done. That should show that the process is a 'safe' one and gives you some evidence for the future to show that there was no contamination of the workplace as a result of the waste removal.
