The d&a evangelists have a lot to answer for. No evidence of occupational risk, but costs and irreparable reputational damage to nobody's benefit except the d&a testers and the box tickers.

I'm no expert on these matters but I would have thought that to fail a D&A test through cough mixture then you must have taken a dose just before the test. The tester should ask if you are on any medicine and in some industries you are required to declare any prescribed or non-prescribed medicines before starting work.

Personally I don't like these self-test D&A kits, I'm not sure how accurate they are or what is the proficiency of the tester. That said, many people who have failed will claim they have just taken cough mixture, Nurofen+ or eaten a sesame seeded bun, etc. That's the way of the world.

It can depending on the concentration - steer clear of covonia if you have a test due! :)

Having dental work within the week prior to the test can also give a false positive amongst others...

Not seen the full case...but with an increase in companies wanting to save money they are relying on more 'in house' testing which is causing problems in itself. The guidelines are clear and if they want to rely upon it in a tribunal is should have full chain of custody...that is why the form asks so many questions, have you been near a riot recently etc..seem stupid but again having ingested CS gas it can have an effect on your test....
