Afternoon all,

Looking for some advice / suggestions re. Visitors to site inductions. Would be interested to hear how this is managed by various construction sites.

Obviously we have our own visitors induction highlighting the essential emergency information such as fire procedures, first aid, site hazards, etc. When it comes to people visiting site to carry out short duration maintenance work such as fitters, plant mechanics I fear our current induction procedures may be a little lightweight were something to happen to these guys on site.

It's pretty rare to see any of these guys carry their own RAMS so how do we ensure they have considered the risks of the work they are doing? Aside from visitor induction and competency check, what more can I do to ensure the safety of people like this?

Thanks in advance.

I suggest that 'visitors' and 'workmen' coming to site are two different categories and as such should not be treated the same. A visitor's induction highlighting fire, first aid, evacuation, etc is ok. However, an induction for a worker should go into much more detail.

Sub-contractors should be producing some documentation such as RAMS, possibly a CPP unless they are working under yours. With respect, I think there are some issues you need to sort out.
