Hi Everyone. I need to pick your brains about fire risk assessment. We lease numerous office premises and I am looking into whether we have fire risk assessments in place. I have a feeling we don't! Most of the premises are occupied by other organisations as well. Some are office blocks with numerous occupiers some are converted buildings with maybe us and another one or 2 organisations. Do any of you have similar situations and how do you work with the landlords to ensure fire risk assessments are completed and worthwhile? Can any of you recommend a training supplier for Fire risk assessment training? Thanks

Not quite fire risk assessment training but the Nebosh Fire Safety and Risk Management Cert is very good and the practical is a fire risk assessment. I have done this and looking at going forward for Fire Safety Manager Training, which I am looking at doing with Vulcan. I have heard good things about their training

Hi GB, You could also consider getting training from a local fire service. I am putting some of my team through West Mids fire service practical fire risk assessment training. One of them has already done it and he rates the content and delivery. Bear in mind that some knowledge of construction, facilities management and human behaviour is also necessary, and also that some circumstances, and some premises, will need much more knowledge and experience than others. However, at the very least a good course will equip you to know what you don't know, and when to get help from elsewhere. As for working with landlords. Some have FRAs, some don't, some are amenable to producing them, some aren't. It's best sorted out at the contract/lease stage to be honest, as it can be a lot of work if it isn't, John

When you do the Fire RA I would recommend using the local Fire Brigade template - that way, you will have Kudos with them if they inspect and ask to see it. All Fire brigades produce these eg http://www.wmfs.net/site...ssessment%20Template.pdf

Vulcan Fire Safety are extremely good. The NGFC is very basic. Look at the level of fire risk in the premises and review course content for both providers.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. I will take a look at all of them. John, yes I agree that if this had been sorted at contract stage we wouldn't have so many issues. Unfortunately I don't think it was considered at the time so looks like I will be having to address the gaps. Thanks again everyone.
