I'm hoping someone can help. What are the consequences of a late RIDDOR report? I am presuming that it will make it more noticeable to HSE but I'm not sure what the consequences for the organisation could be.
Any help is much appreciated

I would imagine it would depend on the reason for it being late and whether it looks like deliberate avoidance or a genuinely innocent mistake.
What can you expect ? Well that depends on the nature of the Riddor. The HSE may ask for a copy of your internal investigation and leave it at that. More serious and they may come knockin
To be honest though with the resources the HSE have at their disposal at the moment it would have to be something pretty major to warrant a visit.

thanks Paul, a member of staff got a broken hand following an incident with a wheelchair hitting a door which caught the hand against a shelf. We just forgot completely about the RIDDOR as we are short staffed

In that case I wouldnt worry about it. Very unlikely you would hear anything further IMO.

I would not hesitate to put the RIDDOR report in. The consequences of not reporting are far greater than putting one in late. A previous employer had a similar situation and nothing happened.

It has been said of late that due to the nature of the HSE now being self funding, RIDDOR reports are a precursor for FFI visits and sorry to be the devils advocate but late reports show that something is not going to plan, if I was in your shoes I would make sure that if a visit was to happen, you are ship shape in all your systems etc.
