Good Morning all
We are a small building company employing 12 operatives direct and using several sub-contractors.
We are doing general maintenance throughout several sites.
Some contractors eg; painters and electricians will be working on multiple sites, one day on one and next day on another alongside our own operatives.

Do I need to induct the contractors for each site they visit or will one generic induction suffice for all sites?
Same site rules and welfare facilities apply to each site.

Following best practice for other companies I have worked for we have given inductions for each site.

I need to clarify this ASAP.

I would personally induct for each site.

The way I would look at it (under new CDM) is one induction per phase plan. If the works are being carried out on 2 very nearby sites which are covered by one CPP I would expect one induction which still covers both sites.

I suspect from your example they are 2 different projects (please correct me if my assumption is wrong!) so I would expect one induction per site.

Hope that helps.

I have assumed you are not reporting to a Principal Contractor.

I am in agreement with ashleywillson, you need to induct for each site. You can, providing you have got all the required information and the risk levels are not too significant, induct them at a central location.

This is an approach I have previously used but you must avoid the temptation to default to this practice for all works. You will at times need to carry out an onsite induction.

We are contracting to a National Facilities Management Maintenance Company. We receive no induction from them and in many cases no Ra,Ms are asked for.

Paul,

There is a duty for a contractor to provide an induction where the PC does not.

You might already be aware but thought it is worth pointing it out!!

Check out 15.9.A in CDM 2015.
