We have a very large distribution center that supplies all our stores throughout the UK.
We store a vast range of goods in this warehouse.
My question is regarding the storage of aerosol cans in our racking systems.
Details:-
The aerosols stored are mainly deodorant items.
We don't store them together the pallets are stored in different locations in the warehouses.
The quantities vary all the time; we may only have 1 pallet in one week and at peak we may have up to 10 pallets in stock.
These pallets may only be in stock for a few days before they are broken down and small quantities picked for delivery to our stores along with other goods.
My question is do we need to store these pallets in meshed off areas or not.
With regard to our fire precautions our warehouses are fully sprinkler protected and our racking systems have in rack sprinklers systems fitted as well.
Any advise would be welcomed by members.
Cheers

Must be losing the plot.

Anyway.......any more advise would still be welcomed.

Aerosols can be devastating if involved in a fire as they go off like rockets and can go as far as 30m. If they are stored in the racking and involved in a fire they would spread the fire to other racks and the sprinkler system would be overcome.

The storage of aerosols in a sprinklered warehouse is covered in Technical Bulletin 216:2001:1 which is an annex to the LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations 2009 Incorporating BSEN 12845. Your insurance company or your sprinkler maintenance contractor should be able to give you the necessary information.

Also the LPC/RISCAuthority also publish RC19 Recommendations for the storage of aerosol products which is available as a free download. Again your insurers should also be able to supply a copy.

Hi. We have a warehouse that has a dedicated aerosol store if you need an alternative store? It is based in Shrewsbury. Let me know if you need this.
