I was talking to someone who holds Tech Iosh status. Their present position does not include any H&S responsibilities. As I understand it, to hold tech status a member has to achieve this by experience and maintain a CPD. If the member does not bother maintaining his CPD how can they call themselves tech iosh. So I was wondering if it was possible to have their status withdrawn and if so would they just become associate members instead. Regards Mike

Somebody in our office who was safety rep in the past has Tech IOSH but does not have a safety related role in any way, shape or form. However, she still has TechIOSH on her e-mail footer. I am not even sure she pays a subscription let alone does CPD!

You will lost Tech IOSH if you don't pay your annual fee to IOSH....got to keep the boys in gin and cigars.

If they are not completing CPD, they may eventually get caught out in the random CPD audits.

Hi If you have a genuine concern that they are using the post nominal or indeed are claiming to be something that they are not / not doing then you have the option to report them. The IOSH Code of Conduct explains how. I sit on the Professional Ethics Committee and the use of / misuse / non-entitlement of post nominal is a bit of a hot topic at the moment! That said, the person(s) concerned may be doing loads of stuff outside of work e.g. charity work etc that you are unaware of and be claiming CPD for it.

If they are doing CPD which from previous posts can include reading the SHP mag, self study etc It should not matter if they are doing any H&S currently as their day job. Otherwise the logic if you are not currently working in H&S would be :- When I was made redundant and it took me quite a while to find another position, I should have lost Grad IOSH status. That would have made it even more difficult for me to get work. So as long as you do CPD ( even outside of work as I did) I would not see a problem. There are lots of people you see on this site looking for their first opening in H&S and are doing something else in order to pay the bills. Chris
