This is more aimed at the admins but all input welcomed. Im in Oil and Gas HSE and am starting to turn my career into tech safety however, as my career starts to change a bit I think I would be less inclined to be part of IOSH and more so IchemE, would there be any cross body cooperation into this field. There is cross over but there is not much I feel that IOSH are doing to support this side of safety.
JJ Prendergast is tech safety, maybe he has views on this also.

JJ Prendergast retired a long time ago.... but I used to work with him.
IOSH provide little support for Safety Engineers/Tech Safety.... I think it gets filed in the 'too hard' box from the IOSH point of view.
As with you, IOSH membership provided no benefit, so I stopped paying long ago.
At the moment I don't belong to any professional body - all over rated in my view. Never stopped me securing work - even in the tough times for O&G at the moment.
The oil price is creeping up a little. The good times will return.

There are many IOSH members who are highly competent in technical safety matters, with two Groups available to join - Hazardous Industries and Offshore. In fact Offshore Group had an excellent networking meeting in Aberdeen this week on lessons to learn about management of change. A copy of the presentation that you can use to try out your responses to the three incidents covered should be on our webpage in a few days.
Of course we'd like our profile and influence to be higher, so come and join us!

Yes Imwaldra, there likely are such people within IOSH but their silence on these forums is deafening I'm sorry to say.
I also dont see any real focus on tech safety in an in depth way from IOSH. I'd have thought a moderator would have responded to this post by now also.
As for the networking group, it may be a while before I can make it to a meeting as I'm working on a North Sea project in South Korea at present.
Regarding the presentation if you would post the hyperlink I would be grateful to take a look and see if it is a group I would be interested to join. Ian, thank you for your post. Yes, I had noticed there was little support for Safety Engineers/Tech Safety for a while now hence I wanted to ask IOSH’s stance on their support of this discipline. Hopefully Tech Safety / Engineering is something they can develop.
As for securing work, yes, I’ve done quite well so far in staying in work and keeping the rate high, it’s a big old world too so if the N.Sea takes a tumble I’ll get my walking boots on. :D

For Tech Safety Engineering its much more important to have a technical/science qualification. IOSH membership & NEBOSH qualifications are just a bonus.
Loads of Tech Safety Engineers don't not have anything to do with IOSH etc.
Unfortunately, far too many think the only way to be qualified to have a career in safety is via the IOSH/NEBOSH route.
