I recently had some work done by contractors who advertised logos for these schemes and I would like to check and see if they are really on the scheme and proved competent? Dates of acceptance to the schemes etc. Please can anyone let me know how I can check, can it be done online? Is there a charge? etc.

I generally ask for a copy of the certificate prior to work commencing, most contractors have a scan ready to email out on request. I've yet to find a comprehensive list on the safecontractor website. As for competence, we are on the safecontractor scheme and in my opinion it proves very little, I hold it in very low regard. Al

I believe if you go to the CHAS website you can search for accredited companies. I do not believe there is any charge for checking the list. I am currently assisting an electrical contractor to get accreditation and they are taking the implementation of the issues which are being shown up by doing the paperwork very seriously. It may not be the same with all companies who hold the accreditation as it is a paper based system with some assessment visits by CHAS. Andy

Hi All, You can check CHAS accreditation on the CHAS website if you have an account login. Safe Contractor stopped publishing a list a couple of years ago. When I asked why they mentioned Data Protection Issues - ????? but you can call them and they will tell you over the phone. A surprising number of the contractors we come across claim accreditation and then suddenly remember they never renewed it when I ask for a copy of the Certificate. I'm with Alan on what accreditation actually means - Very little. Andy

Thanks all. I got what I wanted over the phone, called CHAS and as they are linked with safe contractor both sets of info with one call. No problem at all.
