Hi,
(I posted this in another forum but got no response!)
I am looking at doing a safety qualification to a) help in my current role and b) give me the skills for a potential career change. My local authority are putting managers through the NCRQ Level 6 Certificate, and I wondered if anyone had any experience of this? The lack of exams would suit me, but wondering if anyone had been through it? I like how the Certificate counts towards the Diploma.
I see that IOSH recognise it for Tech / Grad status (from Sept), but would employers see NCRQ as an equivalent to NEBOSH? Which would be better?
Any advice appreciated!
Peter

I would think that Employers will struggle to put it on par with the Diploma at least in the early stages. For that reason I would go for the NEBOSH Diploma.
That said, I am liking the look of the courses they offer and will probably do the Personal Injury Claim one when it commences.
Good luck either way.

Thanks SW.
I just decided to call a couple of recruitment companies from SHP4Jobs. They had both heard of NCRQ - the first said they would recognise them as equivalent to NEBOSH, the second knew a lot about it, and actively encouraged NCRQ over NEBOSH.
I really don't know what to do. I might go for the NCRQ Certificate and see how it goes - I guess it will take me several months to complete? It says about 140 hours - at my reckoning this will take about 4 months, unless I can persuade the Head to let me do it in work time! I can then decide on doing the NEBOSH or NCRQ Diploma afterwards.

Peter,
If your employer is offering to pay for this, then I say go for it.
Regardless of what NCRQ appear to be implying, it is fairly clear to me (nothing else makes any sense) that:
NCRQ certificate is equivalent to the NEBOSH certificate and is level 3
NCRQ diploma is equivalent to the NEBOSH diploma and is level 6

I rarely look in this forum, being long in tooth and no longer running a team. So this new "qual" was news to me, and have to say looks interesting. I particularly like the claimed emphasis on soft skills too.
If it were being offered by employer, I would go for it. Looks value for money.
Bit confused by the Certificate equivalences: I thought that the 'standard' now under QCF guidance was certificates = level 3 - 4. So the level 6 certificate adds a layer of confusion.
I can see what the intent is - so if it really is level 6, perhaps it ought to be called Diploma Part 1.

More competition amongst awarding bodies is welcome. Like any other new qualification, it will take some time to establish itself.
Their information states:-
"We are working closely with IOSH to ensure that the Diploma will meet the requirements for Graduate and Chartered Membership. This accreditation can not be formalised until the qualification is released in Autumn 2015"
I'd await the formal IOSH accreditation before parting with money.
Having had a scan of the specification, I am not sure that IOSH will accredit it as it appears to be light-weight in HSD3: Workplace Hazards.
For comparision, the NEBOSH Dip Specification is at:-
http://www.nebosh.org.uk...%20covers74201561241.pdf
The BSC Diploma Details from the Ofqual website is at:-
http://register.ofqual.g...ation/Details/600_1804_5
The fine print in the Qualifications specification states that:-
https://www.ncrq.org.uk/...ification_march_2015.pdf
Whilst NCRQ have developed this suite of health and safety qualifications, and are responsible for the delivery, assessment, and quality assurance, the final qualification will be awarded by AIM Awards in partnership with NCRQ. This ensures that the qualification will be regulated by Ofqual and will be recognised throughout the UK and EU.
They do seem to have a reputed Qualification Development Team

Hi
I completed the level 5 back in March before the level 6 came out.. it is easier than the diploma to do in respect to the exams, however you still have to put a lot of workk into it.
I joined this forum where it is only people doing the NVQ take a look and see what you think..there are some papers on there also for you to understand and hopefully put you on the right track ... good luck http://hsestudygroup.proboards.com/

More competition is good but as Linda says, the diploma is not yet accredited by IOSH for meeting the requirements for GradIOSH so one must be careful when selecting a level 6 course for this.

Has this been reviewed yet for the Diploma? The IOSH list of courses still shows it as Assoc/Tech level.

I finished the NCRQ Cert in October. I really enjoyed the whole approach and style of the Cert so I have signed up for the NCRQ Diploma. I did ask my tutor about what was happening with the Grad accreditation. Apparently IOSH had asked for a few minor amendments, and this was sent to them in August. IOSH apparently haven’t done anything with it since then, and NCRQ have now referred them to the Competition Authority to get them to hurry up the process.
It has been massively beneficial to be able to choose when and where I do the work, which for me is the major advantage of the course against any NEBOSH strict timetable. I even found myself in the middle of my holiday being able to go through exercises (sad, I know), so all really good.
