I'm trying to establish peoples opinions with regards to the above. I have an operator currently tightening some bolts that have previously been hand tightened on a steel structure. The operator is using a Makita Impact gun The VM is 16.5 and according to the HSE indicator it states that the EAV is 11 minutes. I have suggested to the men that they rotate their duties and keep warm, dry hands. All the usual recommendations. The men are not using the gun for 11 minutes solid, on average they are using for a max of 10 seconds at a time with a break in-between. Has anyone got any experience or thoughts on the anti vibration gloves to reduce the exposure? We are currently looking into a lower impact gun from other manufacturers but in the meantime they are using the gun mentioned. Thank you in advance

the few seconds at a time build up depending on how many times it is used a day, so this needs to be considered as well as any other equipment they are using, is it a typical day etc, and dont forget the user as well- do you know if they are predisposed or already suffering a condiation with regards to circulation etc? I'm on the fence with Anti Vibration gloves, as I know there have been occasions where it has made HAVS worse because operators cant feel the grip and so tighten their hands. The HSE don't recognize AV gloves as a form of PPE at present

I agree with Jodie - anti-vibration gloves forces the operators to grip more tightly, restricting blood flow through arteries / venin in hand and this can lead to increased risk of health issues to hands. Otherwise agree to your other controls (instructions/ training) & plans to find safer equipment.

10 seconds per bolt = 6 bolts a minute 11 minutes = 66 bolts 66 bolts in an 8 hour period = EAV

Thank you all for your comments. My feelings are the same about the gloves. I will communicate times and monitor use with the operatives. Thanks
