Afternoon All,

wonder if I can draw on your collective wisdom.

We have guys who work on construction sites, but install mechanical equipment inside so aren't actually carrying out construction works. They all have the IOSH working safely passport which has always been accepted as adequate.

Next month we are due to start some work in Southern Ireland and have been told that we need the Safe Pass H&S Awareness Training (or equivalent from another EU member state), but have been told that the WS does not qualify.

A few questions,
Does anyone know of a course we could do over here which would be equivalent?
Does anyone know of a training company in the UK who could deliver this training before we go...?
I've emailed a few irish training companies to see if they'll travel over to us before hand, not sure if this will be possible as apparantly we need to register a John Doe type PPS (Irish National Insurance) number first?

thanks.

Hi there

I work in Dublin and have to arrange safe pass regularly. Its is the Irish equivalent of CSR/CSCS scheme but the difference here is that the scheme is regulated very toughly by an independent body SOLAS.

Most sites will not accept any equivalent, no card no access.

Your best / least expensive bet would be to look for a public course, normally about EUR90 / person for the day before you mobilise to site. Its 08.00-17.30 course.

Lots of public courses available.

Many thanks for the reply Jonty, much appreciated.

I have spoken with the project management company and they are going to try to organise some sessions on the first day we are due to arrive on site....

One issue is that the team who are working over there is going to change, with individuals going out throughout the project so I hoped to get an Irish trainer to fly to the UK to carry out training for all our people so we had good flexability, but I'm being told that SOLAS do not allow the training to be carried out outside Ireland? Do you know if this is correct?

Thanks again
Steve
