Had an interesting question during my last trip offshore. Is it a legal requirement that CCTV signs are to be displayed (specifically offshore) if people are being recorded?

We don't deliberately go out to record people but there are various cameras on the rig constantly monitoring operations, equipment etc and inevitably there are people that cross paths with the cameras and end up being filmed.

The Information Commissioners Office updated their Code of Practice in May 2015

https://ico.org.uk/media...ctv-code-of-practice.pdf

Section 9 Responsibilities indicate signage would be required to warn people that CCTV recording was taking place

IMHO given that off shore locations dont have general public access the presence of CCTV, its purpose etc. could be addressed through employment contract & induction with a single sign for visitors at the Helipad exit / gangway.

also note which nationality the rig etc. comes under as UK law does not apply to none UK areas nor a sea going ship going about its normal sea duties and; - somebody brought up the subject of human rights on a rig I was on many years ago and the question was answered by the person being beached! This was some time ago so I am not fully up to date
