Hi There
Can anyone assist please
I am interested in obtaining further information with regards to saliva sampling as part of health surveillance for Lead (if at all possible).
I am familiar with urine sampling and blood sampling having previously worked with Lead and having been covered by Health Surveillance myself, although this was probably around 2002-2003.
I know that technology and testing techniques have moved on dramatically since then.
Thanks in advance
Allan

From a drug screening point of view, saliva sampling (i.e testing for substances) is not as reliable as urine due to the time frames of detection.
I havent covered this subject for a few years, but around 2012 we trialed the use of saliva drug tests and found that substances such as cannabis can be untraceable in a few days (sometimes hours) where as urine displayed for up to 28 days (or longer depending on use).
For urine testing there are of course issues regarding watching persons provide samples which could be adulterated which is a concern; saliva can be done in front of person responsible. Blood requires a person with training to be able to carry out IV.
Have a look on Mr google and see if any companies will offer displays and advice.
Not sure if this is any help.

I think not. Only referenced standards I'm aware of are urine or blood (e.g. Lead at Work ACoP).
Only oral symptom I know of would be blue line at the gum line - that would be lead poisoning though!
