New job with a whole bunch of new challenges.

An employee was recently sent home (in their own car) with chest pains / breathing difficulties - who had to pull over at the side of the road half way home to get breath. Then when they got home, their family called ambulance (turned out to be nothing serious). - If this employee were to have crashed on the way home, I suspect the company would have been largely liable!

Does anyone have a good solid procedure / or other template they could share with me outlining certain situations where staff should not be allowed to drive / leave without medical help?

Thanks

Suggests to me like your company has a serious culture issue.
Looks like they wanted to problem off the site ASAP

I am convinced my colleagues (for all their faults) would look after me better than that.

How about some first aid training? Also some awareness training for all staff on the use of the 111 number?...

agree with others, more awareness & duty of care. chest pains and out of breath our first aiders may well have had blue lights to site.

you clearly have some challenges in your new role.

I agree with the first aiders comments. In a previous role it was a case of breathing difficulties was instant contact medical advice and if they were free to go home someone else would take them home and collect them when they were better to get their car, or get a taxi through company expenses on the day they returned to work. Breathing difficulties are scary enough let alone being in charge of a vehicle, trying to concentrate on the road as well as breathing/ hoping for pain to stop.
