Hi Guys,

I would like to complete my NEBOSH fire however i'm starting my Diploma this year and wondered if this is covered in the Diploma or is it a separate qualification.

Separate. The fire cert goes into more depth than the diploma- only about 10% of one unit in the diploma is exclusively fire. Having done the fire cert I think it is well worth it, once I have got the Diploma under my belt I am going to do a Conversion to Fire Safety Manager course- it can open you up to a lot of avenues.

It can open you up to a wealth of opportunity I think, especially in the realms of compliance, building safety, perhaps construction. It was something I found after doing the nebosh fire, and now being in a role where I'm quite heavily involved in fire safety, so I would like to perhaps specialise. But- if you have a look on their site they do have other courses on there that are similar to nebosh fire- always worth having a little look.

If you are not heavily involved in fire safety, it is just a qualification and if you don't practice it regularly it will fade from your memory as well...so it is better to think about job prospects first...

NEBOSH fire is Good course it is level 3 it is a good starter course and covers alot of basics in fire safety and will help with parts of the diploma it is recognised and will get you tech membership with the Institute of fire engineers (IFE) so you can put EngTech TIFireE after your name.

The NEBOSH diploma is level 6 with a bit of experiance and this course you can get Grad membership with the institute of fire engineers so you can put GIFireE after your name.

The NEBOSH fire is a very good , worthwhile recognised course to get into the fire safety industry.

if money is no object and you need the foundation work do the NEBOSH fire, If not just do the Diploma
--- I use the word Just very loosly, the Diploma is hard work which can take over your life, worth it in the end though

Jodie..No offense to you...i did NEBOSH fire certificate course after doing my NEBOSH Diploma ...i found the course as a platform for those who want to be involved in fire safety heavily in low/medium risk levels..... considering that the exam questions for Institute of fire engineers are in much higher level...

Hence why I mentioned the conversion course, and the point I made that personally I want to specialise. I'm not saying its the best thing since sliced bread but if it is something you want to do then you should do it as far as I'm concerned. The Diploma and the fire course are different entities for this reason.

I did the NEBOSH Fire cert last year and I absolutely loved it. I am going on the conversion course in early October and am really looking forward to it. Although there is an exam, it is much more practical based which is right up my street.

For me, the fire cert was the most interesting out of all of them and I really enjoyed the course. I not only want to learn more, but get more benefit for me and my company going forward not having to spend money on consultants when it can be done in house.

I think anyone doing this course will get a lot from it. I am really looking forward to the conversion course. If you are interest Jodie, I will let you know how it goes.

It does look interesting. I saw it last year but went with the diploma first as I thought it would get me into a more secure role and would give me a broader knowledge, which so far it is, but now I am more involved in fire safety I would like to take it further

I did the conversion course in June this year and can highly recommend it, I had previously done NEBOSH Fire. This and the Diploma enabled me to get AIFireE

I'm also hoping to attend the advanced diploma course in February.

How did you find the exam? I hear its open book? Was it as practical as I have been told it will be because that's the kind of stuff I am after.

Good to hear it comes recommended.

yes, its an open book exercise that consists of a plan drawing of a building with additional information - no questions and answers !! You have to assess the fire safety requirements based upon the information and plans i.e. calculate travel distances, identify area that need additional fire protection. Then produce a fire risk assessment and action plan based on the PAS 79 template. It took me around 5 hours but you can work on it the night before and finish off on the last day.
I found the course really good, some powerpoint but lots of working from plan drawings.
