There are a few e-learning providers out there, I've been using the following company. http://www.essentialskillz.com/

I wouldn't use e-learning for any training, but this is only my opinion!

There are some topics which e-learning adequately covers, DSE and assements spring to mind. However for most subjects I do not believe e-learning is the proper method to provide training, indeed I think it's a cheap and lazy way for the employer to discharge their duties. What next, downloading RAMS, CPPs, H&S Policy, etc, from the tinternet - soon we all will be redundant.

I don't know your company situation, so I'm not going to comment on whether e-learning is of use. A previous employer used Cardinus for an introduction to Health and Safety which was tailored with the company Health and Safety Policy statement, and details that were specific to the site. We used it for DSE also. I didn't mind it as a system- probably would have got on better with the report side of things if I had received training as requested, but muddled through it anyways.

It is most unlikely that off the shelf standard E-Learning packages would be effective training tools as effective training is based on you local procedures & processes that you generally cannot buy off the shelf! Some of the generic may be of some use. Otherwise it is not cheap to compile bespoke E-learning packages--and one can use aspects of face to face training to supplement E-learning.

We use 'Safety Media' for initial and general information, backed up with face to face sessions for localisation and practical in, for example, Manual handling. They can be tailored. Also in a previous life used IHASCO. Both much of a muchness, efficient and adaptable.

I do e-courses for my staff but they are about 7 powerpoint slides long and cover very small simple gobbets of information. I write them myself and spam everyone in the company charging them with reading and understanding and emailing me back when they have done so. They cover subjects such as slips, trips and falls, Hazards Label Symbols changes, Lone Working Emergencies..... simple stuff that can be condensed to what the staff need to know to make them more vigilant. I would never suggest buying ecourses. Sometimes it's a struggle to get people to read 7 slides in 4-5 minutes - you buy anything over 15 minutes long and you have lost your audience.
