I am looking for a training course that will help me with return to work assessments/workplace assessments. We have a number of people returning to work who have injuries, medical conditions or just suffer with back pain or lower limb problems. We employ over 650 across our site with an older population. Some of the returning staff see our occupational health provider who will recommend a workplace assessment or recommend purchasing an ergonomic chair. Is there any course out there that can help me understand the requirements of these individuals and how best to select equipment and provide support for them?

Hi There are lots of courses out there that could help you. I did a week at IOSH on Ergonomics and then Managing MSDs, plus the Health and Safety Laboratory run an ergonomics course. You may wish to follow this link to the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors courses. http://www.ergonomics.org.uk/training-courses/ However, this would only be a start (a good start). Ergonomics is only one factor that affects returning to work. You should consider vocational rehabilitation and non-clinical flags if you get a chance. These will enable you to manage returns better and understand non-ergonomic barriers to returning. Ian
