I am researching equipment to monitor the dust in our engineering workshop
does anyone have any experience of personal monitoring equipment,
I have a bead blasting machine that I don't think is up to standard floor around the area is slippery
so general area and personal would be great

I think that you will find that this is not simple. The only way I know of involves sampling individual exposure over a timed period then analysing the samples in an accredited lab. See http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/mdhs/ for guidance on methodology. What I would do is get some measurements by an OH provider, then decide on your strategy - you don't have to monitor all day every day, but I suggest that you need to get some measurements then decide on your next move. Hope this helps.
