Hi,
I have recently passed my NEBOSH General certificate which I obtained a Credit grade. I have done this though independent study and I have now started my NEBOSH diploma. I work as a customer service advisor and within my role I have around 15 hours per week to carry out my safety role. I am 26 and extremely driven with a huge passion for health and safety, but I am struggling to get a full time role. I think this is due to me not being in a full time roll at the moment. Does anyone have any advice how I can make that jump and start to progress?
Regards,
Phillip

You could look at junior or admin roles perhaps? Also, if you have anything like LinkedIn make sure it is all up to date. Also, is your CV tailored to Health and Safety Type roles? I struggled for a while to get my first break- I finally managed to snag a maternity cover contract last year aged 25 after completing uni and working as a cleaner/receptionist because my original career prospects in the prison service had a five year waiting list, and bills have to be paid at the end of the day.
A couple of months before I was due to leave I revamped my CV and tailored it to Health and Safety- drawing any experience I could from work, Uni etc and putting it into Health and Safety Terms. I had more phone calls and interviews in 2 months than I had done in probably the 18 months before I got my first role. Make sure you push the fact you are self funding your studies, it always looks nice on the CV that you are personally driven.
Good luck with your quest- if I can help in any way please let me know

Hi Jodie,
Thank you for the reply. It's good to see someone is a similar situation managed to get onto the ladder. I haven't got LinkedIn but I will certainly look into that now. My CV is tailored for health and safety and I will adjust a few things like you said it mention I have self funded the studies.
Thank you for the help.

No problem at all. I know it can be difficult but you need to just keep going, there will be the right role for you!!! The role I am in now is completely different to my first, it is still a trainee role but is more buildings based- its different but I wouldn't want to be doing anything else personally. Also, if you haven't done so already, have a look at joining some agencies- I was registered with Shirley parsons and got an interview quite quickly. Universities and colleges are also good ones to look into as well.
