Hi,

Any information much appreciated.

One of our engineers has just reported fracturing his ankle following a slip in a pothole on the carpark of our client when returning to his vehicle.

Yes it was in work time, but returning to his vehicle to return home. Will this still be deemed as a reportable accident under riddor as it is a fracture?

Thanks for advise.

Yes it is reportable in my book also, as he was working and it was down to the condition of the site or premises where the accident happened. It is also an injury which is of a type that is reportable.

I had a similar incident with an employee and the view was that it will be RIDDOR reportable but that this should be routed via those whos acts or ommissions were the primary cause so, in this case the occupier or those responsible for the maintenance of the car park. We have a policy that if the injury is work related we extend sick pay however, under the principles of who would we make a claim for a loss against it would be those responsible for the accident so again, they need to be the ones made aware of their responsibilities and RIDDOR is an ideal prompt because if a claim is made through us as an employer, we would seek to recover this or we would be advising to go straight to source.
