Dear IOSH Members, I have a question for you : What are the best qualifications to be a good safety?. I explain my question, I am French,I have a bachelor in OHSE, Grad IOSH,Mining experience in Assistant HSE and Medical. But I can't find any jobs in Safety. Actually I study the Nebosh IGC and I will pass my exam in March 2016. This to complete my skills. In order to gain more experience and be immediatly profesionnal in Safety, I would like to know if I pass some exams like: Work at height, confined space entry,Permit to work .... I will be good to fit a job in Safety ??? I am a little bit lost actualy , so any suggestion or advice will be very appreciate. And If you recruit a Safety guy who speack French, let me know I am available. Thanks a lot for your answers. Regards.

Bonjour Docbbr. Are you looking for a safety job in UK? If so, I don't really recommend more specific courses (height, PTW) although reading up on these (having a broad perspective) is essential, if not part of your NEBOSH already. Speaking to IOSH might be a good start, see how you can get membership - that helps the UK CV. I would recommend developing your communication / training skills rather than more technical safety ones - all practitioners need these, employers expect them, and they don't come as part of 'safety'. Any course on teaching adults, or training will help. You don't have to be faultless in English, but need to develop and show the ability to connect with an audience, whether at worker level or the boardroom, and to source, (find) or make your own 'learning aids' - these can be photos, pictures, diagrams etc. Come in handy for interviews too.
