I tried the forum search for both "PAS 128" and "PAS128" with zero results, but I'm a bit surprised this hasn't come up before so apologies if this is a rehash of a better post! Does anyone have an opinion on whether PAS 128 is worth purchasing? We've done a fair bit of work this year revamping the way we handle buried services, and I'd be interested in getting the document if it's useful. Any opinions welcome, thanks. Being Scottish at Christmas makes me naturally wary of shelling out 75 quid without a bit of persuading!

Hi Gramsay This may be a long-shot and will certainly depend upon where you live, but your local library may be able to help? I've taken this from the BSI website too..."Many public and university libraries hold complete sets of British Standards. For a full list please contact bsonlinesupport@bsigroup.com or telephone 020 8996 7555" Pete

gramsay, I have to admit I have never looked at PAS 128 - and I have audited gangs of streetworks for years! Anyway, are you familiar with the HSE's HSG47 ?

Thanks, John - yes, I know HSG47 and like you I've been helping people with buried services for years but have never looked at PAS 128 either! I was just wondering if anyone who has looked at it thinks it's useful - I can always learn a better way to present info. Thanks, Pete, for the library suggestion.

The reference list in HSG47 makes no mention of PAS 128. There are a number of guides etc from NJUG and HA some of recent bulletins I suspect may contradict some of what PAS 128 says. And just as I'm writing this, I googled and here is PAS 128 or at least a guide to it ? : http://www.highwayssafet...2/9/51294565/pas_128.pdf

PAS128 is for surveying. Having an understanding of it helps when specifying a survey type which in my experience is problematic. People refer to radar scans prior to a work and then don't understand the survey types and items such as scan density of the difference between EM survey and GPR. In our training we go through the types of scan and confidence levels and how it integrates into design.
