Do I need to have a ukas accredited contractor to fit my fire doors in sleeping risk accommodation or what should I be looking for when writing a spec for tender?

I would only have those with third party certification and don't forget buy the complete door set otherwise if you are trimming the door to fit there is only so much you can remove.

Fire Door Installation:

5 things to check for fire door safety

CERTIFICATION: Look for a label or a plug to show that the door is certificated and check the instructions/certificate supplied

COMPATIBILITY: Essential Ironmongery such as locks, latches, closers and hinges MUST be CE marked, firmly fixed with no missing screws and compatible with the door leaf’s certification. The choice of frame/lining/casing and intumescent/smoke seals (fitted at the top and sides of the door) should also be compatible

ALTERATIONS: Cutting apertures for glazing and air transfer grilles will make certification VOID as will trimming the door more than is permitted or planing off certification markings

GAPS : The gap between door and frame at the top and sides should be 2-4 mm and the threshold gap as per manufacturers instructions (typically around 8-10 mm)

OPERATION: Check that the closer shuts the door onto the latch from any position

There is more to installing a Fire Door Set than just being a joiner and people pay a lot of money to learn how to and to gain the certification.

Once they pass the course they get unannounced visits from the certifier who check the correct installation.

I suggest you use UKAS accredited people.

An incorrectly fitted 30 minute fire door may only last 10 minutes in a fire.

Thank you both, I did wonder how else I could identify competency to install them to those standards.

I have asked for 3rd party accreditation in the tender process. I have looked on the BWF site Invictus but there is no-one on it within a 50 mile radius! which is why I was asking the question initially really, we'll see what we get back.......... El.
